The main types of coffee beans in the Philippines
Liberica
Liberica beans are larger than the rest, often asymmetrical, and are the only coffee beans in the world to have such an irregular shape. And most of all, it is closest to Robusta in size and general appearance. In the Philippines, it is known as "kapeng baraco" (baraco coffee), which translates to "macho stallion" in Philippine culture.
Excelsa
Although Excelsa classify varieties as Liberica varieties, there are key differences between them even in the shape of the grains. Liberica beans are shaped like almonds, while excel beans are smaller and rounder.
Yet despite their similarities and confusion, excelsa and liberica must be considered separate species.
Excelsa has a pointed tip, asymmetrical grains.
By the way, Excelsa beans contain less caffeine than Arabica beans.
Arabica
In the center it has the shape of the letter s.
Arabica beans are flat and oval in shape, while Robusta beans are more pronounced round in shape.
Robusta
Robusta is slightly smaller than Arabica. It is straight in the center.
Robusta also contains significantly more caffeine than Arabica beans.
